GCF and LCM

    What factors and multiples are

    3 is a factor of 12, and 12 is a multiple of 3.

    3 rows of 4 make 12. 3 and 4 are factors of 12. 12 is a multiple of 3.
Factor: a whole number that divides a number with no remainder. Multiple: a number times a whole number. Example: 3 × 4 = 12.

Watch 2 lists find the GCF and the LCM

GCF (greatest common factor): the largest factor that 2 numbers share. LCM (least common multiple): the smallest multiple that 2 numbers share.
Word problems: Use the GCF to split items into the largest equal groups. Use the LCM to find the first time 2 repeating events happen together.

    Try it

Mark multiples on a 1 to 60 grid

    1. Pick 2 numbers.
    2. Pick a color.
    3. Click every multiple of that number on the grid.
    4. Do the same for the other color.
    5. Find the first number with both colors. That number is the LCM.
